I'm digging for suggestions here. I've never owned an SLR camera before, I
have owned some cheap digital point and shoot cameras. I have spent the last 2
months hitting the books and the internet pretty hard. My adventure into film
began with seeing a Pentax P30T in the local Goodwill for $10. I went to a
local camera shop and invested in some equipment for developing black and white
film at home, I've done 4 rolls now, and the results are varied, but not nearly
as bad as I expected. The glass had some fungus, the lens didn't focus to
infinity properly, the iris sticks and worst of all, the film and slide scanner
i have is horrible. I offer the results for damna.. er, judgment.

Further trips to the local Goodwills (we have allot of them here in Portland
OR) resulted in some better glass, I now have a Kalimar 35-105mm f/3.5-4.3,
Asahi 135mm f/2.5 prime, and a Vivitar 35-70 f/3.5-4.5. I didn't pay anymore
than $30 for any of the lenses. Got the last one, the Vivitar for $10. I've
also scored a few strobes, a slightly roughed up Vivitar 283 for $8 and a
Pentax AF200Sa for $5.
I have a few short questions.
Is the Pentax AF200Sa a ttl flash? It has the contacts but i'm unsure
of what to expect from it. Will it only work with lenses with the "A" mode,
can it be used in Apeture Priority mode?
The Vivitar 283 apears to be superior in every way, save for the lack
of TTL contacts. The problem is I'm often shooting on high speed film because
I am planning on doing sports photography in less that good lighting
conditions. The problem is, the f-stop guide on the 283 stops at ISO 400. Has
anyone cooked up a f stop guide for iso speeds above iso800?
