FWIW, that's about the difference between a *ist D and a DS, too. The biggest difference between the new digital bodies and the older (pre-AF) film bodies is in the depth, but most of that is because the digitals have a hand grip and a pop-up flash, both of which protrude considerably beyond the plane of the lens mount.
