Doug, it is two shots, a double exposure actually.
The first exposure was of the western wall of the memorial, I believe,
with the Washington Monument in the background. The lens was a 35mm. I
remember the exposure being something like 50 sec on a tripod,
probably at f/11 or so with iso 100 color neg film.
The double exposure was with a 50mm macro and lit with a Vivitar 283
of the names, centered on Patrick O. Ford. I left enough room around
Fords name so the other names would also show. As it turns out, two of
the other names visible were also crew members on the swift boat with
Ford and were also KIA on the same mission.
As I mentioned earlier, I had trouble getting times when there were no
people visible in the wide scene. Because of this, I actually had only
one successful shot with lots of failed attempts that netted me either
shots of the name or shots of the wall, but not both on the same
frame.
