I've always had this thought in my mind. No matter how good or bad a film is, in a professional film at least, the consistent factor is the editing and the DOP. It can be a really crappily acted, directed, costumed, recorded, written film. But the editing and the cinematography is at least interesting to watch.
And then, when everything else comes together, the editing and the cinematography is glorious. If you have a chance to watch the the Ultimate Collector's 5-disc edition of Blade Runner, there is a little short on Jordan Cronenweth, the DoP, in the "Enhancement Archive" disc. Normally I fast forward through these self-congratulatory features, but his work on this film still amazes me. I recommend, if you love still or moving phototography, to get this set, watch all 5 versions of the film, and then be moved by the Jordan feature.
