Dave, Jack, Marnie, and Christine,
Thanks for looking.

Dave,
No, I don't carry a fence with me :-)
Mayor Daley has decided that a rought iron fence around
every open space would be a 'beautifying' thing...

Jack,
The owls were not more than 15 feet off the sidewalk and
quite content to sleep there. Only a local squirrel crossing
into their pine tree got a hard stare. He left quickly.

Marnie,
Yes, they are rare to find. Somebody said that even 'keen
birders' who mark 700 species a year don't usually find these.

Christine,
Thanks, you should go visit them. They are in a park at
1270 S. Plymouth Court. Half a block south of
Roosevelt Road and a short block east of State Street...
an amazingly urban environment for a bunch of owls!

We were watching them for about an hour on Friday.
The atmosphere was festive as 10-15 folks dropped by.
Neighbors are used to small groups standing and watching.
We met a guy shooting a huge Canon 600mm f4 in camo colors.
His tripod and Wemberly Sidekick head cost more than my A400/5.6.

Regards, Bob S.
