Apple keyboards and Mac OS X, you can create grave, accent, umlaut and other inflected letters with a two key press. For example: type option-e, then e = é type option-ESC then e = è type option-u, then u = ü type option-n, then n = ñ etc. If you go to System Preferences, International panel, click on the Input Menu tab. Click the checkbox to display the "Keyboard Viewer" ... it appears in the menu bar drop down on the right. Select that and you can see what every key on the keyboards does in detail at any time, in the font you want to use.
