This is the way I do in in PS. 1. Add a new layer and fill it with 50% gray (RGB 128,128,128) & Set the layer blend mode to overlay 2. Use Filter/Noise/Add Noise Tick Gaussian + Monochromatic. 3. Adjust noise amount to taste I usually end up with anything between 0.5% to 15%. This naturally depends on the image. 4. Adjust the layer opacity to fine tune the effect.
I Sometimes I apply a bit of unsharp mask to the noise layer but it does not always give a pleasing result.
