While looking through the gallery today, I updated my spreadsheet from last autumn to see where the new photographers come from. Interestingly, the contingent of Spanish photographers has increased dramatically. One of them has even managed to have more than 20 shots accepted in one month!
Way back before the voting began in the Gallery, I compared the PPG selection of shots to what can be found in the Pentax Photo Annuals issued by the Pentax Family in Japan. I claimed that the aestethic preferences were very different between the two. Now I am tempted to invoke a similar explanation to variations with time in what's voted in and out of the Gallery. If the population of voting photographers vary by national bias, then surely their aestethic preferences will also vary. But this is just hypothesizing, of course.
