Just back from 9 days in Italy, to which I took the K20D, the FA 31, and the three pups--the DA limiteds. I would have taken instead the DA* zooms, but as I reported here, the DA* 16-50 does not focus correctly at 16 mm on the K20D. It focuses fine from 18-50 mm, and fine at all focal lengths on the K10D. So the K20D and the DA* 16-50 need to go to Pentax to be calibrated to each other.
Before I send them off I would like to test the K20D and DA* 50-135 together for any focus adjustment issues. Here is my question: Am I correct in assuming that the best focusing test/adjustment of a constant aperture telezoom will be at the long end, where the DOF is the most shallow? In other words, if I have to select a focal length at which to test the DA* 50-135, I assume that the best focal length is 135 mm. Is my reasoning correct? I actually had only one day in Milan in which to do any photography, but there may be some shots worth posting when I get to it.
