what that means is you dont have a true zoom lens most likely,
something must be changing that shouldnt.

Tested this combo tonight. The lens locks in autofocus rapidly at  
12mm, even in a dark room. I used the center spot only.
On the other hand, I was unable to nail a focal point correction for  
the lens. It backfocuses a little bit at 24mm and front focuses a bit  
at 12mm. So I leaned the adjustment toward the 24mm value, since the  
DOF is so great at 12 mm.  I think I ended up at +3. Should be fine,  
but I was hoping for consistency there.
