I *did* sort-of forget to mention the whole being in a building that was
hit by a tornado. It's funny how that kind of thing totally alleviates
anybody's concern about your department being way over budget on
overtime already...

I was on the phone with my wife when it hit. I remember saying "what
the hell is that noise" and then she heard some shouting and a lot of
commotion and I hung-up the phone... She was watching the game on TV
and soon realized that we'd been hit by a tornado and suffered some
damage (as seen on TV). It wasn't until about half an hour later that I
realized that I needed to call her and tell her I was ok...I *was*
somewhat busy during that time though...

Also funny how the meetings on what to do about a tornado striking your
building during a sporting event last exponentially longer than the
actual weather event...

The game was in overtime. A kid from Mississippi State university had
hit a last second jump-shot to tie the game. We, who knew it was late
already and we had another game to work after this one, cursed his
accuracy.
Had he not hit that shot, the game would have been over and a few
thousand people would have been out on the sidewalks walking towards the
hotel district which took the brunt of the storm instead of safely
watching the roof move inside the Georgia Dome. The glass from hundreds
of hotel windows rained down upon those sidewalks. There but for the
grace of God...

If you're interested, search for Georgia Dome Tornado on youtube and you
can watch some of the TV coverage.
