Best price I find on Lightroom is only about $50 more than Aperture. That's not a huge difference really. I wouldn't use that to determine which of these image processing/management environments is preferable.
One of my ongoing concerns with Aperture is that the RAW processing engine is integrated into the OS core libraries. It slows down delivery of new camera support because the updates either have to wait for an OS update or a separate project team has to be engaged to produce, test and deliver it. There are good things about this kind of integration too ... which the folks at Apple consider to be valuable to a large majority of their customer base, otherwise they wouldn't have gone this way ... but they're not the sort of things that make much difference to my uses. For those cameras which Aperture 2 supports, it seems to be a good environment for management and editing. I have an eval copy of A2 that I have experimented with just a little bit and am considering going to a few hours workshop on it next week, just to learn a bit more. However, I don't see myself going to Aperture. At the present time, I find its toolset a bit more difficult for me to get my head around, it requires a hefty bit of processing power in the graphics adapter (for which I'd need to buy an update for best performance) and is much more fluid in performance on the Intel DP and QP generation systems than on the PowerPC single and dual processor systems. Lightroom does a very good job for me, I'm more concerned with producing work than with nuances of the tool suite at this point.
