I read The Sanctuary. The Snopes trilogy rings a bell but doesn't come to mind. I took a Faulkner course in grad school but haven't really touched him since. I should. I don't read enough these day, perhaps because I spend so much time writing on a computer. My eyes are worn out by the time I get home from work.
I did pick up "As I Lay Dying" again last summer because I wanted to revisit the working of the narrative. I wrote a novel about a psychotic advertising writer, who slips back and forth from one personality to another. At first one personality is dominant then the other takes over. It's written in first person, present tense, so I had to give some thought to making the narrative coherent. I eventually settled on starting a new chapter every time the narrator switches. The first chapter narrated by the subordinate personality is only one sentence. As the story ends, he is the sole narrator. Seems to work, but I don't know if others will find it of interest. Haven't really had a chance to look for an agent let alone a publisher. I've heard that's near impossible. Someday I'll try. By the way, it's not autobiographical, although some of it is based on personal experience:-). Paul On Mar 22, 2008, at 12:12 AM, Christine Aguila wrote: > Paul: Yea, that's a point about S& F.
