I back up my financial data every day to my .Mac network storage  
drive. That's the essential information that would be very very  
painful to lose. Photos ... 500+ Gbytes is way too much data to push  
around that way. If I need to get out of a burning apartment, I can  
grab and go with one of my external drives in less than 1 second to  
free it from the computer.
