When Nate wants to shoot the cats, I stand behind him and wave my fingers over his head, sometimes while whistling at them or whatever to get their attention. It works pretty well at getting them looking in the direction of the lens. Treats are good as well if you want them to stay in one place while you shoot. Just give them a couple wherever your setup is and they will stay there for at least a few moments. Good luck & have fun!
