thats not (rapid)fluctuating light, thats unusual light.

Agreed. I did that on the MX as well. Not that it doesn't meter, but I  
simply couldn't set it quickly enough :o)

Hmm, not sure. For instance, I like the light just before or after a  
rainstorm, especially at dusk. I am quite happy my lenses do meter in  
those circumstances.
