Who's this "Armstrong" guy, and what does he know about climbing mountains on a bike? ;-) (actually, I seem to recall him doing pretty well on L'Alpe d'Huez and Ventoux once or twice in his career). I still remember "the Look": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7THIhZEP4QM Lance later claimed that "the look" wasn't a challenge, that he was only glancing to see where Ullrich was, that Jan is a good friend and that he'd never humiliate him that way. But I saw it live (on TV) and it sure ~looked~ like he was throwing down the gauntlet. On way or the other, it was one of the great attacks in the Tour. And ultimately it won him the Tour in 2001. And to think he may have got some of that training in the Blue Ridge Mountains! BTW, it's cool seeing the cyclists under that arched bridge - they're so ubiquitous along the Parkway - they're anachronistic throwbacks to a different era (I'm sure they'd never pass safety regs now) but they're gorgeous! cheers, frank -- "Sharpness is a bourgeois concept." -Henri Cartier-Bresson -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
