Just had my birthday dinner: Halloumi with asparagus and brown rice. ever since my birthday party with Cotty 2 years ago it's become a tradition. No Hobgoblin ale available but I did find "Seriously Bad Elf", which is also from Oxfordshire (9% alchohol - yikes!)
Birthday present from my mum was a copy of W.E. Smith's book "Dream Street". In 1955 he quit Life magazine and spent a year in Pittsburgh shooting photos (35mm and LF) for this project. Just amazing stuff. I recommend this book highly. It's particularly interesting for me because I live in Pittsburgh, though I'm still a relative newcomer. Some things in the book have hardly changed in 50+ years, while in other shots it's hard to believe it's the same city.
