One of the things I did before my recent trip to Bulgaria was get on 
Google Earth and look for the contributed photos.  If you set your 
"viewing altitude" to between 5,000 and 10,000 feet (1,500 and 3,500 
meters), you'll see a blue dot for each (cluster of) photos.  When you 
zoom in farther (reduce your "altitude") they'll turn into little camera 
icons with blue halos around them.  The spots with more little blue dots 
tended to be the places that both locals and visitors found most 
interesting in some way.
