In my case, because the day I decided to set up a photo-sharing
account, I was in a hurry and Flickr was the one I could most
quickly remember the name of.  (IOW, because it was popular
enough among my friends that it had more "mindshare" than the
others, even though some of the talk I'd heard that made it
memorable was negative.)  

I keep meaning to set up accounts elsewhere, and will probably
use the different services for different projects ifwhen I do
get around to that.

(Note also that I haven't bothered to try to customize my
Flickr main page yet, just left it at the site default.  Nor
have I explored the site much.)

I didn't plan for Flickr to be a permanent thing, but inertia
is a factor.  That said, it doesn't seem to suck, really, even
if it's not as wonderful as it could be.
