I first shot the poppy on manual exposure because I was using the Vivitar Series 1 macro, an ancient but excellent 90/2.5 without any electrical connects. I merely set the stop, aimed at some green grass and pushed the button. However, I used the lightsphere and 540 flash for this shot. Since flash PTTL doesn't work with manual lenses (you get a full power flash), I just started at a guesstimated f11/ 1/125th. I think I ended up shooting it at f8, 1/180th. (I bumped the shutter speed up to cut down on ambient exposure and darken the background grass a bit more.)
