Dave, I can only add few more cents here: 1. Have all your equipment connected to UPS at all times. And be sure that you have enough UPS units or enough UPS supplied power to run your setup properly. 2. I don't think that going with CDs and DVDs is a good idea simply because of sheer volume of data you might want to backup or restore. Once you use these, the complexity of management becomes quite unpleasant. What you if have a shoot that spans more than one disk? And what if you have to backup/restore some files that are on different disks? Naturally doable but major PITA if you ask (lazy) me. 3. Personally, I have just one external (network connected) HD drive that I use for backup. Admittedly my solution is not fool or bullet or fire proof, but when I accidentally did regrettable things (and it happened quite a few times), within minutes I had nothing to mourn for ;-). What Bill Robb suggested sounds like quite a good idea... 4. If you so inclined, a totally another option is to take an old PC box and assemble several HDs in there adding a RAID controller. Thence you will have your own NAS (network attached storage) that you could set up in any way you like with any interface you want (think FireWire). This is what I probably would do when my current solution expires. Cheers.
