Similarly, I unplug the desktop system completely and move to the  
laptop if there's anything like the Four Horses of the Apocalypse  
arriving here.

(In 20 years, I think I've seen two real thunder/lightning storms in  
this area, but big wind and occasional power outages do happen now and  
then.)
