They are very different lenses (both formula and performance have very little to share). Recalling a 10-years old comparison, the M lens wins very easy when considering 3D effect, while the A lens outperforms its counterpart about center-to-edge performance (resolution/sharpness). Hence: 1 - Choose the M for shooting real-life subjects in their environment (they'll pop out from the background) without worrying too much about resolution at edges. 2 - Select the A lens for shooting targets, repro work, architecture, graffiti, and the like. > The M lens will be better built.
