I would guess this is a Great Egret, but I'm no expert. In any case,
I spotted him perched in a tree next the trickle of the Rouge River
that spills over the dam of one of the lakes in Bloomfield Hills,
Michigan. A heron was standing near him in the water. But I was on my
way to the bank and didn't have a camera. Gee, I ought to go home for
the camera, I thought. But no. Figured they'e both be gone. Finished
some of my estate executort business at the bank and realized I was
missing one of the four checkbooks I needed. So I drove back home for
the checkbook. The heron was gone, but the egret was still there. So
I picked up the K20D, A 400/5.6, 540 flash and Xtender along with the
checkbook. On my way back, much to my surprise, the egret was still
sitting on the same branch where I had first spied him. So I parked
the car, crept up to within about 50 feet and clicked off a few
shots. Not great light, but I worked on it a bit in conversion. And
here it is.
