Thanks Jack. No spot metering, just the multi-segment of the K20D.  
With RAW, that usually gets me close enough, and I figured the  
combination of a dark background and white subject would bring me  
pretty close to equilibrium on the exposure. I did use the flash, and  
it provided some fill in the shadow areas. It also lit his eye a bit.
