What's always the problem is Pentax assuming that because all the money 
is made on low end cameras, all you need to build are low end cameras: 
You need a high end camera to impress newbies into buying your low end 
cameras. The 1Ds mkIII is almost as much a marketing tool for the Rebels 
as it is a photographic instrument.

In all seriousness, I think Pentax has learned this lesson, but it took 
them a while. I also suspect the Nikon D700 and Sony A900 have probably 
killed off Pentax's planned high end APS-C camera and we'll have to wait 
for the Samsung full-frame sensor to be ready.
