Hi Boris: In this particular case I used spot metering, and I agree,
sometimes the matrix metering does odd things, but for the most part I can't
complain. I've grown quite fond of my little K10D. Given the feedback from
others, I think my monitor is a little bright and that's what's giving me
the impression of flash quality lighting in these pictures. Thanks, Boris.

Christine, to your question. IMHO, if you used the matrix metering,
you used a black magic performed by wondrous wizards of Pentax
software team. To me both pictures look ok (on the screen), but in
general I find the matrix metering of K10D to be not exactly reliable.
Say, it is reliable most of the time, but not always. I tend to
(chimp) review my photos all the time mostly in order to examine the
histogram.
