I was thinking about taking all of them out and giving them a good shake to stir up any pigment that might have settled. But you're probably right that I should just replace them outright.

Just a followup, I decided to hold my breath and have a go at it today. I shook up the cartridges one by one as described above, then ran three consecutive head-cleaning cycles (I remember reading somewhere, possibly here, that the 2nd and 3rd cycles each run a little more aggressively provided you don't do anything else between the cleaning cycles).

After that It needed 3 cycles of nozzle check and head clean to return a good test pattern. I'm currently running the alignment procedure but I think one of the heads may have clogged again - I'll probably have occasional issues like that for a little while.

But you can definitely colour me surprised. I thought I'd be fighting an expensive uphill battle just to get a decent test pattern.
