I think you're right and that it would more likely be the Canon crop rather than a 16:9 frame. In every other way the camera that's described in D preview would be a significant upgrade. I'm sure the DA and DA* lenses would cover that image area, and the high frame rate at 6 megapixels would be a real asset for action shooters.

Canon 1.3x crop sensor ~ 3:2 aspect ratio ~ (27mm x 18mm)

APS-H = 16:9 = 30.2mm x 16.7mm.
