It may be hard for you to comprehend, but not all of use a mail reader that displays the subject line as something for you to "click" on. I use mutt on FreeBSD, and the first thing I knew about there being messages about F1 (in a photography discussuon list ...) was when a message popped up on my "terminal" (virtual VT220) when I moved to the next message after rumours of the K30D.
