Chris,

My MZ-S has been banged around and is as hearty as all the others,
if not more. I have not gone out of my way to give it harder knocks though.
I don't want to offer it as a test point to see how much it can take. It
does feel sturdy. It hides the scrapes better. I know a couple of times
where I should have gotten a scratch and cannot see one.

I have had it out in the rain taking photos with no covering. I do
this with my LX and no other camera. It has taken that with no problems.
It has been out on the beach and been in the sand and gotten sea spray on
it. I am up to about 70 rolls through it and it is still working fine. The
true test is if I can take it to the tropical forests and see how it takes
it. Maybe next year.

Personal opinion so beware. The reason for not stating sealing is I
think that Pentax would open itself up to quite a few problems if they
claimed WR like certain p&s they have. I would think that they can handle
the returns of their p&s better than if someone truly tried to trash the
MZ-S. And I can see that happening if they went all out and claimed that.
I wonder what that would have done to the cost of the camera if they had
gone all out with the sealing needed to claim weather protected. I know
people who have seen my MZ-S have been surprised on its size and price and
the sturdy feel of the camera. Increasing the price would probably have
impacted sales. Then again, I am not in the business and what do I know?
