I'm all for user fees. If you don't use it, you shouldn't have to pay
for it, etc., etc. But why is it that toll roads always suck? I
think the worst roads I've ever driven have had toll booths - the PA
turnpike (better than it used to be, but still not good), that pothole
parade from Pittsburgh to Cleveland, and that one time in Chicago when
it cost me more coming back and I got to drive on less of it.
You should drive the Mass Pike. Once outside of the City of Boston it's
well maintained and a wonderful ride. On the other hand Connecticut
removed all tolls from it's highways about 20 years ago and outside of
the "big" cities, (yes, those of you who live in Chicago and LA can
laugh now if you'd like), the highways are well maintained.
