PJ, it's the public's choice NOT to support mass transit. Always has been. Taxes never killed it, cars and suburbia did. Regards, Bob S. =========== In my area, we have Bart (which may or may not be extended to San Jose). Bart is fine. Bus trips TO Bart are not. Once, when I had to to use public transportation completely, no car, I had to ride the bus back and forth to Bart. The Bart trip took about 20-30 minutes to Oakland. The bus trips in the morning and the evening, to and from Bart, took about an hour. While I was willing to add some time to my commute time, and hour and 30-40 minutes seemed like a great deal. (Oakland is drivable in about 20-30 minutes). Bart is good, bus service in this county is poor. Parking at the local Bart station used to be a pain, also. One would have to arrive very early to get a space (again adding time onto one's commute. Which means waking up earlier and earlier in the morning. If you are NOT a morning person this is a major pain. You want all the sleep you can get and not have to get up hours and hours early.) They've been rebuilding the parking lot and parking garage. Maybe that problem has been fixed. Sometimes public transportation doesn't work because it doesn't work (i.e. isn't that good).
