Pentax has produced a few special editions, but I've never heard of any
of the special editions he mentions. The one's I know of are the Pentax
K1000 SE. ME SE, (I actually have one of those and it's not so
special), I think there was am ME Super SE, but I'm not certain. Boz
lists the LX Gold, LX Titanium, LX Limited, LX Millennium. There was
also a special edition made for Australia of the *ist-D IIRC, thought
that could have been the *ist-Ds or DS2. I've never seen any of the
ones he mentioned in any books on Pentax cameras, and notice he doesn't
mention the special LX's or K1000 or ME SE cameras. Just remember
Pentax is not Leica they generally build work a day cameras. I have
occasionally seen lenses with some lettering in red, but other than the
"limited" lenses I have no way of knowing if that was done at the
factory or just filled in by someone on a lark. Personally I don't
think he knows what the hell he's talking about, or he's trying to snow
you, I suspect the latter. I'd report him to Ebay.

bought this camera from a friend of mine, a Japanese artistic
photographer. He bought this camera at a small show organized by Asahi Co.
Ltd. Unfortunately, I do not have any official documents (receipts,
passports, etc.) that would prove the authenticity of this model. After
this auction, it would have made its mark on the internet and will no
longer raise the questions you have. So, it is not surprising you were not
able to find it anywhere. In 2009, I plan to start a website with a group
of collectors where I will have information about rare collectible cameras
and lenses.

I think it needs more documentation to justify it's 3-5X pricing.
That might be a $50 early K1000 with a bit of red paint added.
The only odd part is the extra flash synch.
The lens should also have a plastic, not screw in lens cap.
And the 55mm f1.8 was the better lens introduced with the camera.
I've never heard of extra SMC coatings being applied.
Some kind of soft shutter release button has been added.
The seller is from a location with many older retired people.
The camera looks nice, but at a lower price please...
