Fred, that "whirring" feeling should bother you. It's the feeling of the focussing motor being forced! When you want to focus manually with an AF body, you should always select MF on the body. The only exception is with lenses with linear focussing motors built in, as in certain C***n and N***n lenses.
Admittedly, AF lenses have very little drag on the focussing ring (to save wear on the motor and increase focussing speed, as well as improve battery life), which doesn't feel as nice as a finely-made MF lens, but that's the trade-off of the new technology. If you leave the AF engaged to get more drag, you're beating up the motor and gears. Just thought you should know. Pat White - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
