Pat,

There's no switch to engage or disengage the motor or the gears on a
Ltd. lens, and there's no motor in a manual focus body, like the LX.  I
do believe Fred was referring to using the lens on a MF body. I notice
the same "whirring" that Fred does, although I'll admit it's fairly
subtle.  I only have MF bodies, and, frankly, I kinda like the way the
Ltd. feels when used on the LX.
