The thing I missed about the film days I missed long before they were over. I had for a long time an available darkroom for B&W and could control printing, (and in fact with Cibachrome you could produce reasonably good prints from slides with the simplest darkroom setup, with a lot less control, but I digress). Digital, even partial digital, (i.e. scanning film, then processing the files with a computer), gave me back control of my output.
