The Wikipedia article says he's considered a hero by many Canadians.

Not so much in the Province of Quebec where I was brought up.  Even in
The Rest of Canada (TROC), while we all know who he is, he's not
revered.  I don't know of any statues or monuments in his honour
anywhere in the country (although I'm sure there must be).  I
certainly wouldn't know him to see him.  ;-)
