to make sure my feeble memory wasn't playing tricks on me, I grabbed
this off the web:
http://www.ens-newswire.com/ens/dec2005/2005-12-15-04.asp
http://tinyurl.com/cn43zo
Basically, when the Katrina hurricane hit our gulf coast the usually
damp northwest was experiencing a drought
(northwest including parts of Canada and up thorugh Alaska)
I'm glad to hear from you guys that you are all ok wasn't sure quite
where everyone was - except I remember David S
being "out west"
As to your photo - it reminded me of what I saw looking from my roof on
9/11... same direction, even... that
must have been pretty scary.

It's a striking photo- and it adds quite a bit knowing it is smoke,
rather than odd clouds.
How is the drought situation? I imagine it was a major factor in the
fires. Some years, it's either too much or too little.
Stay Safe,
Mike
Thanks. I'm in Sydney - a long way from the current problems in
Queensland and Victoria.
....
It seems so
bizarre to have flooding and fires occurring at the same time in
different parts of the country.
