I don't think I'm a good enough photographer that they'll fill you
with instant lens lust.  The wonderful thing about it is not so much
the image quality, or the speed, but how small my K100 is with it.

I used to just leave my 18-250 on the K100 because I'd always have a
reasonable approximation of "the right length". My favorite "walk
around" prime was the 31, but with it's stupid sunshade, the camera
wasn't much more manageble with the 31 than the 18-250. But, with the
40, my K100 becomes darned near a pocket cam with DSLR+Prime image
quality. There is something that is just amazingly *fun* about that.

It's also a lot of fun to show the setup to Canon owners. 

Unfortunately, the portraits I shot with it on Thursday fell pray to
the camera autofocusing on the wooden bridge behind my friend, rather
than on her.
