That's what I do. I got tired of trying to store stacks of 4x6 prints
that I'll never look at again. So I shoot transparency film, scan the
best ones, and print them on an inkjet. I make a lot of 11 x16 prints
and a lot of 7 x 10. (I use an Epson 1200. It's great, so are the newer
Epsons, the latest of which is the 1280.) I have access to a great
scanner at work (an Agfa Duoscan 2500T), so I don't have a good film
scanner at home. If the use of the scanner at work ever becomes a
problem, I'll get a Nikon film scanner. I still do BW darkroom work. BW
negatives scan rather well, but you really need a dedicated BW printer
with special inks and software to print them nicely. Hope it works out
will for you.
