Got my new (to me) Program Plus in the mail today. At first I thought I had a defective camera. I load it up with film and the shutter displays only "1000." I was getting upset figuring I got a bad camera. But I thought I'd better head over to Pentax and get the manual first.
Sure enough the problem lay with me and not the camera. The Program Plus has a nifty feature that sets a shutter speed of 1/1000 of a second until the frame counter gets to "0" so that you can advance your film without making an exposure. Not really sure that I like that feature though. I like being able to squeeze a couple more frames on a roll of film. Otherwise, I am quite impressed with it. I bought it -- literally -- because it was the cheapest Pentax camera at KEH in excellent condition. But I think I'm really going to like the little camera. It has quite a remarkable feature set for such an inexpensive camera. And I'm really taken by the size. It's been quite some time (7 years) since I had a Pentax camera and I'd kind of forgotten how much smaller they are. My camera bag looks somehow empty with the Pentax in it, whereas the old Canon EOS body it used to contain filled up the same space. I am especially impressed with how the display shows how many stops over or under you are while in metered manual mode. The old EOS body I had (620) said only "Cl" for close aperture, "Op" for open aperture, or "oo" for correct aperture. The EOS method was extremely clunky and the camera was obviously made to be used in manual mode. Anyway, I am excited and I can't wait to get my first roll of film through it. Expect to see some photos by this weekend! ~Nick David Wright http://pedalingprose.wordpress.com/ -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
