Some recollections about PDML, PUG, etc.

I joined the list some time in 1997, when I purchased my
first Pentax - ZX-5n. (Actually, since even before I purchased it, -
as the list helped with some information on that camera and lenses.)
I found it through the links on Pentax website. PDML (which probably
was not called that way yet) was hosted by Pentax then.
When Pentax decided that it does not want to deal with all these
whiners, Doub Brewer picked up hosting of PDML.

As for

- I am not sure who you are talking about...
:-)

Indeed, Steve Graham was the 2nd PUG maintainer, after Doug Brewer:
http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/1837/

Originally some galleries of PUG were hosted on Doug's personal web-space
(or does my memory decieve me about this?).
Unfortunately, I didn't think about creating a copy of those
galleries, - and they are not available anywhere for long time.
(BTW, - Doug, if you are reading this, - if you have a copy somewhere, -
let's post them to PUG.Komkon.org , under "previous galleries")

Due to the space limitation, a few galleries in late 1997 were posted on
geocities.com :
http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Gallery/1318/

Having seen that, I contacted Doug and Steve, and offered hosting on
Komkon server. March 1998 gallery was the first one hosted on Komkon.

With the February of 1999 gallery, a bird [grin] named Mark Cassino
became the new PUG maintainer, followed by Bill Wrobb in July of 2000.

The longest PUG maintainer was Adelheid von Kirschten
http://www.fotocommunity.de/pc/account/myprofile/529059
who started with the January 2002 gallery, and prepared all galleries
through June 2007. Scott picked up the baton with the July 2007 gallery.

If you carefully look at the old galleris, you will notice that several
other people have been acknowledged for the help in enabling PUGs.
I am afraid to forget somebody, but I will try to list them here:
Rob Studdert, Jeff Renner, Bong Manayon, Maney Gomez, Fred Wasti,
Robert Batten, Alin Flaider, Tom Van Veen, Sid Barras,
Delano Mireles, Flavio Minelli, Gary L. Murphy, Michael Bromm,
Yves Caudano, Jan van Wijk.

Amongst them, one name is repeated over the longest period of time:
Jostein Oksne. (August 2000- June 2007).
He was the author and maintainer of the "AutoPUG" web-site based
submission form that he hosted on his website.

Over these years, I enjoyed my interaction with all PUG maintainers.

Some other notable contributors on PDML who haven't been mentioned yet
in this thread.

Fred Wasti, whose name is listed above, has also contributed with his
very useful PLG page: http://plg.komkon.org/
PLG, despite alternative suggestions like "Pentax Loosers' Gallery",
"Pentax Lickers Gallery" or "Canon Users Gallery" still stands for
Pentax Lens Gallery :-)
See this thread:
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg269956.html

Stan Halpin - assembled together and organized information about
many Pentax lenses http://stans-photography.info/ - based on PDMLers'
opinions.

Jim Colwell who created SPLOSdb - the tool that I used a lot while
choosing my lenses and looking for them on eBay and elsewhere.

Boz has been mentioned already.
Well, I still have the F 50/1.7 that I purchased from him.
:-)

I am sure I am forgetting somebody...

Cheers,

Igor
