I've owned the Epson 4490 (I currently use the 4870). The Epson
software is usable but not terribly great. Both major aftermarket
scanning packages (Vuescan and Silverfast) support the Epsons and you
also have support from Betterscanning.com for ANR inserts (major boon
to film flatness, I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone trying to get 35mm
scans out of a flatbed) and also the Betterscanning 120 holders.
