Whiz? In what class?, remedial school? a square IS a rectangle. a square photo format is still a rectangular format. its just a rectangle with all four sides equal length.
a rectangle does not have to any special ratios of its sides, they can be equal, which is "square" rectangle. not a square "non-rectangle". I specifically used the word rectangular in my post because photo formats have traditionally been rectangular for many years as opposed to circular or oval or other shapes used in the past. There is I guess, still the "circular" fisheye format. The point of my post was when your dealing with rectangular photo formats, the square format uses more of the useful lens image circle than any of the other rectangular formats, the ultra wide panoramic being the worst offender. I was a whiz at plane geometry in grade school, but I never was presented the hypothesis of squaring a rectangle, or rectangling a square!
