Don't you just hose them down and let them stand in the sun. They usually work any rough spots out by scratching on the fence rail. Be careful though, they can and do bite is provoked.

Do you do anything "special" in terms of handling them? My normal laundry is cold water on the gentle cycle in the wash, and the knits/gentle dryer cycle, which I hope would be OK for the heavy cotton canvas of the Domke bag.
