Not that I want to get into this whole pet/master relationship, but it seems to me that ~among~ our relationships with pets, we're (at least sometimes) ~in loco parentis~ (in the place of a parent). We ought not be painting the faces of our children (primarily girls, it seems) for our own needs (I'd say placing a three year old child in a beauty contest is for the adult's needs, not the kid's).
