They're just cosy, all tied up together. A narrowboat will have an
engine, although the smoke you can see rising will be from solid fuel
stoves for cooking and heating. They do run their engines while moored
for a while to charge batteries. They will all be individual craft, they
wouldn't tow other narrowboats, too unwieldy. The longest ones are 70 to
80 feet long, each one about 6 feet wide.
