Hey guys! Happy holidays all...
well, this is one very happy Pentaxer here. Today my package arrived from Peter in sunny Brighton (camera-driect) and wow, what a boxing day I had! Two new LX screens (SG-60, Sc-69) and the Pentax-A* 85mm f1.4! All I can say is wowsers! Also, I'm on vacation until the 3rd so I'm going shooting tomorrow (and the next day, and the next day, etc....). Listen: the reason for my post isn't to brag about my new gear but to pass along an idea I had. I've never liked the dedicated hood that came with this lens so I went another route. I saw a website a while back that showed the hood (PH-SA) for the Pentax 67 135mm f4 macro lens. It's a big squared-off thing that just happens to fit 67mm filter sized lenses so I decided to pick one up and give it a try on the 85. It's much larger than the original but the nice thing is that it's a clip-on whereas the OEM hood was a screw on so changing filters with this hood is a breeze compared to the original. Also, with a screw in hood, if you prang the end of the hood you can damage the filter threads of your lens. With the PH-SA, you'll still protect the end of the lens but pranging it that hard will most likely just snap it off with no damage to the lens. Of course, no one on this list would ever treat their treasured gear so roughly...we all baby our stuff...ahem... Maybe those of you with this lens may go the same way? I can't imagine getting any flare with this thing! here's a pic of what this setup looks like: http://prv-groups.aol.com/primelenspix/photos_photo1.adp?albumid=1&index=0 Regards, Brendan MacRae - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
